Manders Family

Richard

I grew up in the Netherlands, where camping was a big part of my childhood. My family traveled and camped in several countries across Europe, which sparked my early love for the outdoors. I later began working in construction, and at one point my sister and I traveled to France to look for property with the idea of starting a campground.

A few years later, I moved to Florida, where I worked at a campground for several years. During that time, I earned my CDL and spent a few years driving a big truck across the United States, gaining valuable experience and perspective along the way.

After meeting Joy, we began working together fixing up houses and renting them out as vacation homes. As the business grew, we wanted to expand beyond traditional vacation rentals and explore something more unique—glamping.

To learn more, we traveled to Colorado to attend the Glamping Show, where we spent several days at the convention. We were inspired by the variety of ideas, designs, and tent concepts we saw there. It was also where we met Nathan from Timberline Glamping Company. After hearing him speak about glamping and learning more about his vision, we knew it was something we wanted to be part of and were eager to learn how we could join the Timberline team.

Joy

My name is Joy, and I am originally from the Philippines. I grew up on a farm and near the beach, which shaped my appreciation for nature and simple living. For over two decades, I worked in the electronics manufacturing industry before moving to Florida several years ago to pursue new opportunities and follow my dreams.

After relocating, I worked in the hospitality and customer service industry for a few years. When the pandemic hit, I decided to return to school to expand my knowledge and prepare for the next chapter of my life.

A couple of years ago, I met Richard, and we began talking about our dreams, plans, and goals—and how we could achieve them together. We started taking steps to turn those dreams into reality. To save money and move forward, we chose to live in a barn while working on projects and fixing up houses. Our goal has always been to grow, explore, and create unique vacation rental experiences.

We had long talked about glamping and researched how to get started. Two years ago, we made it to Colorado to attend the Glamping Show, where we learned so much and met Nathan. We were inspired by his knowledge and vision and felt determined to learn from him, which led us to join the Timberline Glamping team.

Our plan has been to attend glamping shows and conventions every year to continue learning and growing. Although natural disasters prevented us from returning to Colorado last year, it did not stop our dream. Instead, those challenges strengthened our determination, patience, and commitment to working hard and turning our vision into reality with Timberline Glamping.
